Cabinet Of Ministers Plans To Create Neftegaz-Bezopasnost Company

The Cabinet of Ministers is intending to create a company to be named Neftegaz-Bezopastnost.

In the words of the deputy head for the department of security of the Neftegaz Ukrainy Company, Aleksandr Zagoruiko, the new company will provide security for the extraction, processing and transporting of extracted gas, and also fight against unlawful incuts into the gas pipelines.

In the words of Zagoruiko, criminal elements illegally collect yearly more than 300,000 tons of gas concentrate from the tube-pipelines of the state-owned company Neftegaz Ukrainy.

Russia had previously accused Ukraine more than once of insufficient reliability of its gas transport system.

In August, Neftegaz Ukrainy and the Russian company Gazprom signed in Moscow the final draft of long-term contracts concerning transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, and also as regards storage of Russian gas in Ukraine.

In 2001, Ukraine reduced the transit of gas westwards by 6.2% in comparison with 2000 to 105.3 billion cubic meters.

The Ukrainian gas transport system includes 35,200 kilometers stretch of gas-main pipelines, 122 compressor plants and 13 underground storage depots for gas.

The yearly output capacity of the gas pipelines consists of 170 billion cubic meters outwards.
