Ukrtransnafta transportation down 25% in 2002


Oil transportation by Ukrtransnafta fell by 15.566 million tonnes or 25.5% year-on-year to amount to 48.013 million tonnes in 2002, the Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Ministry said.

The Ministry said that oil transportation for Ukrainian needs last year increased by 5.666 million tonnes or 40% (to 20.61 million tonnes), while exports to Western Europe fell by 21.232 million tonnes or 50% to 27.4 million tonnes.

Consequently, transit accounted for 57.1% of the total volume of oil being transported.

The Ukrtransnafta branch - Druzhba Trunk Pipelines increased oil transportation by 418,000 tonnes (2.3%) to 18.52 million tonnes last year. In particular, transportation for export fell by 229,000 tonnes or 1.4% to 16.4 million tonnes, with transportation for Ukrainian needs up by 647,000 tonnes or 40% to 2.112 million tonnes.

Transportation by the branch Pridneprovsky Trunk Pipelines in the reporting period fell by 15.98 million tonnes or 35.1% to 29.494 million tonnes. Transportation for export was down by 21 million tonnes or 65.6% to 18.498 million tonnes.




Ukrainian gas imports up 8% in 2002


Ukraine increased imports of natural gas by 4.5 billion cubic meters or 8% to 56.5 bcm in 2002, the republic's Fuel and Energy Ministry said.

Imports of gas from Turkmenistan increased from 17.3 bcm to 19.2 bcm. Receipt of gas as payment for the transit of Russian gas increased from 22.6 bcm to 25.3 bcm. Supplies by Itera last year amounted to 12 bcm.

The Ministry said that gas transportation by Naftohaz Ukrayiny companies to Western Europe increased 0.7% - from 105.3 bcm to 106.1 bcm, while transportation to the CIS fell from 19.1 bcm to 15.3 bcm.

Gas consumption in Ukraine in 2002 fell 2% from 63.4 bcm to 62.2 bcm.
