Ukrainian gas consumption falls 4%


Ukraine consumed 39.9 billion cu m (bcm) of gas in the first nine months of 2002, 1.8 bcm or 4.3% less than in the same period of 2001.

The Ministry of Fuel and Energy said Ukraine increased natural gas imports by 1.8 bcm to 43.8 bcm. This included 14.4 bcm from Turkmenistan. The Itera corporation supplied 10.2 bcm and Ukraine received 19.2 bcm in payment for the transit of Russian gas.

A total of 91.2 bcm of gas was transported across Ukrainian territory. Transit to Western Europe increased by 1.2 bcm to 77.5 bcm, while transit to the CIS fell by 3 bcm to 13.7 bcm.

In 2001, Ukraine consumed 63.4 bcm of gas, 3.5% or 2.3 bcm less than in 2000.

Gas production in Ukraine up 1.2% in first 9 months


Gas production in Ukraine in January- September 2002 amounted to 13.814 billion cubic meters, up 1.2% from 13.655 bcm a year earlier.

According to current information from the country's fuel and energy ministry, this included natural gas production, which was up 0.8% to 13.2 bcm.

In particular, Naftohaz Ukrayiny companies increased natural gas production 0.2% to over 12.6 bcm.

Ukraine sustains oil production


Ukraine produced 2.787 million tonnes of oil with gas condensate in the first nine months of 2002, up 0.7% from 2.776 million tonnes in the same period of 2001.

Oil production minus condensate grew 0.8% from 1.945 million tonnes to 1.961 million tonnes, the Ministry of Fuel and Energy told Interfax.

The Ukrnafta oil company produced 2.106 million tonnes of oil and condensate, up 0.2% from 2.103 million tonnes, or 1.816 million tonnes of oil minus condensate, up 0.8% from 1.802 million tonnes.

In 2001 as a whole, Ukraine produced 3.709 million tonnes of oil and condensate, 0.3% more than in 2001.
